DFPC to Hold Hearing on Emergency Rules

Wednesday, August 03, 2022 3:41 PM | Robert Merlino (Administrator)

In June, the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control issued emergency rules to allow sprinkler fitters seeking renewal of their registrations a grace period until June 30, 2023, to complete the required exam. This was determined to be an emergency as it was determined that existing testing options would be insufficient to re-register all of the State's fitters prior to the July 1 deadline.

While the rules are opened, DFPC also elected to create rules to ensure that sprinklers installed in pre-manufactured structures will be able to meet the State's standards.

Finally, after a great deal of discussion with relevant entities, including CFPA, a consensus was reached to address concerns that many structures within the state will not be able to meet the September anti-freeze deadline established in NFPA 13. (Final document not ready at time of publication.)

A public hearing will be held on these proposed revisions on August 10, starting at 10:30 AM. This hearing will be held virtually. If you are interested in learning more or in attending or testifying, you must pre-register.
